Southern Water Tracks Van Thieves with DigiCore's Vehicle Tracking System
London, United Kingdom, May 23, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Southern Water, the water and wastewater company serving more than two million households in the South East of England, has safely recovered a stolen van using DigiCore’s C-track vehicle tracking solution just weeks after it was installed. The van, used by one Southern Water’s mobile service teams, was taken by thieves from a pumping station car park in Rochester, Kent, prompting immediate action by employees to locate and rescue the vehicle.

The C-track vehicle tracking and fleet management system was utilised by Southern Water – led by Wastewater Network Section Leader Darren Simmons and Co-ordinator Rosa Richardson – to pinpoint the location of the van and provide real-time positioning data to the Police. Within 30 minutes of the search commencing, the van was discovered empty but relatively unscathed, with just a mobile phone and hands free kit missing.

Commenting on the recovery, Bob Hart, Wastewater Operations Area Manager for Southern Water said: “We are really pleased that the tracking system is already proving its worth. These vans cost a lot of money and to get this one back with so little damage and all the tools inside was quite remarkable.”

Tom O’Connor, Managing Director of DigiCore ltd said: “We are delighted that the vehicle tracking solution has demonstrated its value so soon after installation. Fleet security is just one aspect of vehicle tracking that provides real and tangible benefits to vehicle operators, and we will continue to work in partnership with Southern Water to realise significant returns on investment from the C-track system in the future.”

DigiCore was appointed earlier this year to develop and install a telematics-based tracking system across 520 vans, to enable Southern Water to better manage its mobile service teams within Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Vehicle tracking is expected to become an essential element of Southern Waters’ operational management process, contributing to greater fleet efficiency and enhanced control of mobile assets and workforce.

C-track is a sophisticated fleet management system that adopts the latest technology to provide a comprehensive real-time vehicle management tool. This proven solution provides vital information about mobile assets and workforce, and offers a scaleable mobile solution that meets the complex needs of car, van and commercial vehicle fleet operators.
