American Student Dental Association 2012-13 Executive Committee and Speaker of the House of Delegates Elected
Chicago, IL, March 14, 2012 --(PR.com)-- During its Annual Session in Minneapolis, Minn., the American Student Dental Association House of Delegates – 121 dental students from across the United States – elected its 2012-13 executive committee and speaker of the House. All leaders have been involved in organized dentistry on both national and local levels in past years and will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the association.
Colleen Greene, Harvard Schools of Dental Medicine and Public Health ’13, was elected president of ASDA. Greene served the association as editor-in-chief from 2010-12, and previously sat as a member of the Council on Sessions and Council on Communications. In 2011, she was a voting delegate in the Annual Sessions of the Massachusetts Dental Society and the American Dental Association. Prior to dental school, Greene spent three years as a high school chemistry teacher through Teach for America in Chicago, Ill. She will earn a Master of Public Health upon dental school graduation and previously earned a Master of Arts in Teaching.
“My greatest honor as president will be to advocate for the interests of our dedicated members,” said Greene. “I'm confident that in one year, our profession will be better off due to the hard work of ASDA's newly elected and appointed leaders.”
Also elected were ASDA’s vice presidents Alexandra Barton, Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry ’13, and Ben Youel, University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry ’13.
Barton has previously served ASDA as chair of the Council on Membership, member at large, and member of the Council on Professional Issues and Strategic Planning Oversight Committee. At the local level, she served as vice president of VCU School of Dentistry Student Governance Committee/ASDA. She was a student delegate to the Virginia Dental Association Dental Health and Public Information Committee and student liaison to the Virginia Dental Association. Youel has served as ASDA District 7 trustee and consultant to ADA Council on Dental Benefits Program. At his local chapter, he was elected vice president, president-elect and president. He is also an active member of the American Dental Political Action Committee, Illinois Dental Society and Chicago Dental Society.
Elected as speaker of the House of Delegates is Jiwon Lee, Columbia University College of Dental Medicine ’14. Lee has held the role of co-vice president at her chapter and ASDA District 2 legislative liaison. Prior to dental school, she was an intern at NPR in Ann Arbor, Mich., and then a production assistant at National ABC News headquarters in New York.
