Humanity First USA Donates $14,000 to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency at New York "Dine for Humanity" Event
New York, NY, March 17, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Humanity First USA presented a check of $14,000 to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) at the New York “Dine for Humanity” fundraising dinner on Wednesday, May 7, 2012.
Richard Wright, the Director of UNRWA, accepted the check from Humanity First USA Operations Director Dr. Mahmood Qureshi and spoke briefly to the audience about the UNRWA’s work. UNRWA Liaison Officer, Amira Hassan, was also in attendance. The UNRWA provides assistance, protection and advocacy for approximately 5 million registered Palestine refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and the occupied Palestinian territory.
UNRWA is a subsidiary organization of the United Nations. The Agency's chief officer, the Commissioner-General, is appointed by the UN Secretary-General after consultation with UNRWA’s Advisory Commission and is the only head of a United Nations body to report directly to the General Assembly.
Humanity First USA began supporting the UNRWA in 2009 to aid Palestinian refugees who have been displaced during conflict. Executive Director Munum Naeem met with then Director of UNRWA, Richard Whitely on the first anniversary of Humanitarian Day to present a donation of $20,000 in addition to the $10,000 donated earlier in 2009. Humanity First USA looks forward to continuing this partnership with the UNRWA to support underserved and conflict affected refugees in the future.
