Columbia, SC, March 19, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Sensei Chris Feldt, owner and chief instructor for Samurai Karate Studio, located in Richland Northeast Columbia, South Carolina, recently completed an anti-bullying workshop at Sandlapper Elementary School. Sensei Feldt was invited to talk to 4th and 5th graders by Mrs. Barbara Jennings, a guidance counselor at Sandlapper.
"I have worked with Mrs. Jennings for several years now, and she is just as passionate as I am trying to help these children learn how to stand up to bully's without resorting to fighting," stated Feldt.
The program involves meeting with each class separately and getting the kids actively involved in the discussion as well as working on improving body language, making eye contact and learning what to do if bullied or seeing a fellow student bullied.
"Most parents tell their child to fight back, which is such a common experience," stated Feldt, "However, kids who fight get in trouble, often suspended. So telling them to fight is not the answer. We have to empower them by teaching them how to be more confident, what to look out for, taking responsibility for their actions. I have been teaching this course for several years now and we have been quite successful with it."
Anti-Bullying training is just one part of Mrs. Jennings life skills training program that she teaches the children. "We are so lucky to have Sensei Feldt come to our school and work with these children," commented Mrs. Jennings, "He is wonderful with the children and they have fun and most importantly, they really seem to be learning how to deal with bullies in a non-violent way!"
If you or someone you know is a victim of bullying, Sensei Feldt will help you. Please contact his school at 803-462-9425 or at samuraikaratestudio@gmail.com.
