Homeless Empowerment Relationship Organization Holds Furniture Sale
Local Michigan Organization Supports Homeless in Greater Detroit Area
Detroit, MI, March 25, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Homeless Empowerment Relationship Organization (H.E.R.O.) is holding a furniture sale March 20-April 29, 2012, in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Held at 1480 Washtenaw Avenue in Ypsilanti, a building previously occupied by Hollywood Video, HERO is offering 6-drawer wood dressers, chairs, round pedestal tables, couches, microwaves, clean twin-sized mattresses, microwaves and more.
In January and February, Eastern Michigan University donated the bulk of reusable furniture from a dormitory to HERO. After closing one of its dormitories in 2007, EMU used the building to store furniture from other campus buildings being refurbished.
HERO is holding a six-week sale to sell and/or donate reusable furniture to the community. Midvale, LLC, property manager for the property on Washtenaw Avenue has donated the use of the building covering a large portion of HERO’s costs.
“Prices are below flea market prices but if someone cannot afford to buy the items they need or want, they can volunteer to work the sales days and they can earn the item(s),” said HERO executive director Marti Rodwell. “This is in keeping with our emphasis upon empowerment.”
Mattresses are Serta brand and are free from bedbugs. Pricing for mattresses is $20 each or two for $35. Prices for other furniture items range $5 to $50.
HERO was co-founded by comedian Louie Anderson. HERO serves homeless and at risk individuals in the area from Detroit and out to Livingston County.
HERO’s mission is to help people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness to recognize and claim the power within in order to obtain their goals for personal growth and success. HERO hands out and delivers free clothing, household items, shoes and other necessities needed by someone starting over again in life.
Sales days are Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 am -6:00 pm. This event runs from Tuesday, March 20 until Sunday April 29, 2012.
The Washtenaw Avenue location is also a collection site for HERO’s current shoe collection drive. For more information, contact Marti R. Rodwell, Executive Director at 734-975-6849.
