Children's Mercy Hospitals Strengthened MRI Safety Protections With Suite of SAFESCAN® Ferromagnetic Detection Products.
Children's Mercy Hospitals, with inpatient campuses in Missouri and Kansas, now offers both hand-held and pass-through ferromagnetic detection screening for all MRI patients, and accompanying family and personnel.
Kansas City, MO, March 29, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Having started with the SAFESCAN® Target Scanner™, the hand-held ferromagnetic only screening instrument from Mednovus, Children's Mercy Hospitals now offers both localized screening for magnetic materials, and has augmented their screening capability with SAFESCAN® Intercept Pillar® systems which now help protect the hospital's MRI suites at locations in two States.
Ten years ago, a sedated pediatric patient died in an MRI accident in New York State. Young children often require sedation in order to remain still for MRI exams. Sedated patients require more staff and equipment to monitor and protect them. When magnetize-able materials, such as steel, are brought into the room with the MRI scanner, these materials can be forcefully drawn to the scanner, injuring anyone in their flight-path. For these reasons, pediatric hospitals, in particular, are very vigilant in screening people and objects to help keep magnetic materials away from MRI scanners.
With the recent additions at Children's Mercy Hospitals, both the Kansas City, MO, and Overland Park, KS, facilities, MRI patients, staff and visitors can now be screened for magnetic materials with SAFESCAN® products before entering the MRI scanner.
Children's Mercy purchased the recent Intercept Pillar® systems through Siemens Medical Solutions (http://www.medical.siemens.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay~q_catalogId~e_-1~a_categoryId~e_1031603~a_catTree~

The Mednovus SAFESCAN® family of products are also available directly from Mednovus, as well as through the Amerinet GPO, and CHCA. U.S. Federal Government facilities can also find SAFESCAN® products through the Federal Supply Schedule.
