OutMilitary.com Officials Celebrate Gay Pride Events at Service Academies
Boston, MA, March 28, 2012 --(PR.com)-- OutMilitary.com, a social network for LGBT service members and their supporters, is proud to support the recent formation of LGBT clubs on campus at many of the nation’s military academies, and various Gay Pride events taking place this week as well. Cadets in uniform at Norwich University, the nation’s oldest private military academy, participated Monday in the school’s first gay pride week. In addition, LGBTQ and allied members at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy have formed a group called Spectrum, which has many of the same goals as the Norwich club. The formation of these groups, as well as the gay pride events, comes just six months after the repeal of DADT.
“It is gratifying to see these young cadets expressing who they are,” said John McKinnon, creator of OutMilitary.com. “It is precisely events like these that erase stereotypes.”
“A good number of OutMilitary.com members attended (or are currently attending) the service academies,” points out Shaun Knittel, a spokesman for OutMilitary.com. “We stand in solidarity and support of the positive change that DADT’s repeal has brought to, not only the ranks of active duty and reserve troops, but to the cadets studying to become the next great leaders in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard.”
OutMilitary.com provides a supportive environment for “friending,” sharing and networking between active duty military, veterans and supporters – around the world.
