UK Pasty Tax Leads Floods of People to Bake Their Own

Leeds, United Kingdom, March 31, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Talk of VAT on hot pies and pasties has seen a 300% increase in people buying bakery experience days.

Bestexperience.co.uk reported that demand started to rocket as soon as VAT was announced on 21 March 2012, and has been rising ever since.

The experience day company has selected the UK’s best bakery and pastry masterclasses, which teach people how to bake tasty bread and pastries – all things that would see VAT added if they are served warm. And since the new tax was announced, demand has been outstripping supply, with people desperate to learn how to bake for themselves.

Peter Bletchen, from bestexperience.co.uk is amazed: “We’ve never seen anything like it. The only way I can explain it is people wanting to make their own pies and pastries to get one over on the tax man. Maybe learning how to bake is the latest form of tax avoidance.”

The pastry experiences, some run by famous baker Richard Bertinet, seem a long way from budget sausage rolls from high street bakers, but they are linked by the British love of cakes and pastries. Even the Prime Minister was keen to ally himself with Cornish pasties over the last week.

Peter Bletchen continues, “If the pasty tax has been good for anything, it’s reminded us Brits how much we love fresh, warm sausage roll. At only 20p or so, the VAT isn’t going to bankrupt the nation, but it’ll add up over the course of a year. That would pay for a bakery experience, and in turn, a lifetime of super sausage rolls.”

Confusion still reigns about how exactly the pasty tax will be implemented. If the pasty tax isn’t revoked, and it brings about the end of civilisation as we know it, bestexperience are poised to take advantage of that too. “We’ve found some amazing zombie survival experiences to prepare for that too.”
