Knowledge Lives Forever Receives Radio Airplay After Winning Fourth Annual "Made in Reno" with Politically Conscious Song
Knowledge Lives Forever, a five-member band led by singer/songwrite/rapper Chari “Knowledge” Smith, known for their high-energy shows, hooky songs suitable for airplay, and indefatigable work ethic, have done it again. KLF competed in the fourth annual Made in Reno local band competition on March 30th and won best song of the night. The song selected by the judges was surprising due to the nature of the songs content. The song will be played in rotation on the radio within the next week.
Reno, NV, April 07, 2012 --(PR.com)-- After setting the tone for 2012 with their three album release show earlier this year, Knowledge Lives Forever has not lost any steam in their quest to become one of Reno’s premier bands. As local celebration of their "Trilogy" continued with one of the albums’ feature on Reno’s best albums of 2011 list, the band did not waist much time basking in their new found recognition. In fact, they pumped out another noteworthy song which eventually became known as “The Cause.” In March when they were invited to perform at Made in Reno, a local band showcase, KLF took a risk and decided to complete their set with “The Cause.” The song was described as, “a driving rock song with a rapper’s sermonizing cry for people to assertively protest against inequality and injustice,” by event co-creator and promoter Michael Scion. Given its nature, Chari “Knowledge” Smith, front woman, was quite surprised when she was notified that “The Cause” was voted the number one song of the night.
“When Mike told me which song the judges selected, I was floored. Honestly I didn’t think that one would be picked given its message and arrangement,” says Smith. “Then again, maybe that’s why they picked it. It’s so different from most songs, although, I’m sure banging on a floor tom in the middle of it might have helped convince the judges.” Guitarist Kim Radzik, drummer Kris Stosic, bassist Asa Dakin, and back up vocalist Vanessa Rodriguez were equally surprised by the judge’s selection.
Winners from each night of the competition were given the privilege of having the winning song played in rotation on KDOT-FM 104.5, a cosponsor of the event with sister station KOZZ-FM. KLF will also be featured on cosponsor Guitar Center’s website. “It’s an amazing opportunity for us. I wrote the song for a reason and it’s great that its purpose is already being served so quickly after its creation,” said Smith. KLF recorded a 4 minute radio edit of the original 7 minute version early this week and has already submitted it to the station for play. “The anticipation is exciting and nerve-racking at the same time. I hope that it’s received well, and hopefully people will call and request it so that the message continues to be heard.”
“The Cause” will be released online via iTunes and Amazon next week after its radio debut as KLF’s newest single. KLF’s next local show is April 10th where they will be sharing the stage with the duo God-Des and She at The Alley in Sparks. “Oh we’ll definitely be playing that song for sure,” said Smith regarding their upcoming show, “it’s inevitable.”
