Gardening Helps Ex-Cons
Albuquerque, NM, April 08, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Leadership Albuquerque and transitional living center, Dismas House New Mexico, invites Albuquerque community members dedicated to promoting social justice and peace to assist in a greenhouse “raising” on Saturday April 21, 2012 at Dismas House New Mexico’s Men’s Campus.
The hoop style greenhouse and garden will benefit Dismas House in many ways. The greenhouse will be used to grow food for residents, as well as flowers and herbs that will be dried and used in fundraising crafts. Residents will be enriched by seminars in gardening and training in craft activities as part of their programming and community service activities. They welcome master gardeners and greenthumbs to teach their residents how to cultivate land, grow crops, and take pride in their hard work. James, both a current staff member and a graduate of Dismas House, explains, “I think this will motivate some of the guys to learn more about farming and gardening, so that when they leave here they can have a garden of their own.”
The “raising” of the greenhouse will begin at 9:00am. The staff and residents will work together to build the greenhouse and begin cultivating the land to begin planting. They will also have a barbeque lunch for anyone who comes to help.
For more information on the event, or if you are interested in holding a training session for our residents or volunteering in the future please contact Carly Frank at 505-343-0746 or carly@dismashousenewmexico.org.
