InfoSec Skills CEO Criticizes how ICT is taught in Schools

London, United Kingdom, April 12, 2012 --(PR.com)-- In an interview this morning, Terry Neal of InfoSec Skills (http://www.infosecskills.com), a niche ICT training company specialising in Information Security training, said the recent commentary by Education Secretary Michael Gove on the state of teaching ICT in schools was fully justified and accurate. “InfoSec Skills focuses on teaching our students about information security, a subject that needs a thorough foundation in ICT before the concepts and techniques make sense. And while organisations such as the Cyber Security Challenge UK are making our industry appeal to the next generation talent coming out of university, there is a distinct dearth in kids who are interested in ICT in this way. We need children to come out of school with a passion for building cars, not just drivers, if the UK is to recover from the current recession and flourish in the future,” commented Neal.
InfoSec Skills has introduced its Certificate in the Foundation of Informatics as part of its course portfolio, aimed at students who want a career in Information Security but don’t have the IT background to get started. The certificate is an equivalent to the study a student would go through at A-Level should the curriculum reflect what the ICT and engineering professional communities need.
Dave Raimbach, operations director at InfoSec Skills said, “Universities in the US are running similar programmes for students who wish to enter IT at the Masters level, however, in the UK nothing like this exists. This course is one that is garnering global interest and we hope the UK can keep up.”
