Author William Thiel Appears on Montel Williams Show

New York, NY, May 31, 2007 --(PR.com)-- William Thiel, author of the iUniverse book A Promise Fulfilled, was a featured guest on the Tuesday, May 22, 2007 edition of Montel, the popular daytime talk show hosted by Montel Williams.

The program discussed the topic of preventable medical errors and their residual effects on spouses and families. It also explored how some victims of medical mistakes have used their experiences to help others avoid the same tragedies.

Thiel’s wife Maureen died following a courageous bout with breast cancer. Maureen found a lump during a self-examination, but was told by numerous doctors that it was only a benign cyst. Maureen’s cancer was finally diagnosed more than two years after she found the initial lump, and she died a year later. She left behind her husband and young sons Erik and Ryan, a situation discussed in Thiel’s book, A Promise Fulfilled: One Couple's Journey Through Misdiagnosis, Breast Cancer and Advocacy.

“I was initially contacted about the show by another author who happens to be an acquaintance of mine,” Thiel said. “The producers of Montel asked this author if she knew of any children who were victims of medical errors and if those children were willing to discuss their experiences. The producers contacted me the same day and immediately made arrangements to come and visit Erik, Ryan and me.”

According to Thiel, the appearance on Montel was nothing but positive. “Montel was one of the most caring men I’ve ever met,” Thiel said. “He was concerned about my sons and asked how they were doing. He also asked me to return to the show in October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.”

In addition to writing A Promise Fulfilled, Thiel is also the founder of Maureen’s Mission, a breast cancer advocacy organization with the goal of enforcing a universal standard of care for breast cancer victims and giving women the right to insist that a biopsy be done if they so choose.
