The Sweeney Family Band Rises from the Swamp to Win $1000 in Jingle Showdown
Bartow, FL, April 11, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Polk County's first annual Jingle Jam sing-off showcased canorous ditties with old fashioned product appeal. Sponsored by The Ledger, Bartow Ford crowned The Sweeney Family Band and their original song "Bartow Ford is the Place" as grand prize winners on Saturday, February 25, 2012. The live audience of over 100, listened as the finalists sang their jingle for a chance to win $1,000 for 1st place, $500 for 2nd, $250 for 3rd, $150 for 4th and $100 for 5th place, respectively.
Contestants submitted their original 30 second video jingle to The Ledger's website. 28 videos went through two rounds of public voting to narrow the audience’s top five favorites. The top 15 finalists were invited to perform their jingles at Bartow Ford. The five finalists that received the most votes by Friday, February 24, competed in the final stage of the sing-off.
Polk County Commissioner Melony Bell, Entertainment Editor for The Ledger Matt Reinstetle, and two Tampa Bay Buccaneers Cheerleaders Tiffany Jimenez and Kara Partin, served as local celebrity judges who deemed one grand prize winner and four runner ups.
The Master of Ceremonies, from Hall Communications, Grant Star was confounded by the talent that was present. “I’m glad I’m not one of the judges because I couldn’t pick just one. Everyone really put a lot of creativity into these jingles, they’re all great!”
Alissiea Wilder, a math teacher, took second place with another crowd favorite jingle “All Aboard with Bartow Ford” winning $500. Blake and Kevin placed third with “Blake and Kevin’s Jingle”, James McCormick fourth place with “Bartow Ford is Where You Wanna Be”, and Donna and Megan landed in fifth place with their rendition of “Our Bartow Ford Jingle.”
The winning jingle will be made into a commercial for Bartow Ford and will run for one year throughout Tampa Bay media outlets. The Sweeney Family Band and their swamp bluegrass sound, performs all over Florida and the United States for private events, fairs and festivals. When announced as the grand winners, one of the band members, Little Buck, questioned “Are you sure that’s right? I can’t believe we just won!”
Contestants and guests enjoyed appetizing cuisine catered by Deli Delicacies from Lakeland. A five piece band, A Sound Asleep, provided live entertainment. Those who were unable to attend the event had the opportunity to watch via live feed from Bartow Ford’s homepage. The recorded broadcast is now showing.
