Stamford, CT, April 17, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The spring season opens the Pierce Ball Gallery with an exciting new solo show "Art of Light & Color," featuring the works of Rowayton artist, Betty Ball. Betty's work will include pastoral landscapes, florals, and still life in pastels, paintings and monotypes. Monoprints are made by drawing or painting with ink directly onto a printing plate. The plate is placed in contact with paper and run through a printing press, producing a one-of-a-kind print.

"Betty's new monotypes are an exciting and energetic interpretation of the subject matter that she has been exploring in her paintings and pastels. We are delighted to have this new work in our spring opening show "Art of Light & Color," said Elizabeth P. Ball, Director of the Pierce Ball Gallery.

"I am emotionally drawn to the organic. Whether my subject is the moving landscape glimpsed from a train window or the fluid lines of flowers, I am fascinated with capturing the energy in what I see," said Betty Ball.

Betty was born in Charleston, West Virginia. After moves to Texas, Rhode Island, Manhattan and Brooklyn, she now lives and works in Rowayton, Connecticut. She received her BFA in Graphic Design from the Rhode Island School of Design, and has been working as a designer and fine artist ever since. Betty brings her design influences to work in fine art compositions capturing the light and color in the world around her. Her paintings, pastels and monotypes have been exhibited throughout the northeast. She works out of her Rowayton studio.

Among her many awards, Betty has received the The Charles J. Beran Award, 95th Annual Juried Exhibition Greenwich Art Society; First Place Oils at Brushwork in Rowayton Arts Center; and has been included in numerous shows including the 20th Annual Winter Members' Exhibition at the Southern Vermont Arts Center in Manchester, VT; the 23rd Annual Art at the Coach Barn in Shelburne Farms, VT; the 61st Art of the Northeast at the Silvermine Guild Arts Center in New Canaan; and First Place Pastels at the Annual Juried Show at the Bendheim Gallery in Greenwich. Her work is represented in collections across the US.

The Pierce Ball Gallery also has an ongoing exhibit in the upper gallery, of small watercolors and "elephant size" acrylic paintings by 2 African elephants that live in the bush of the Okavango Delta in Botswana. The Pierce Ball Gallery is the exclusive gallery for these wonderful elephant expressions of art. These unique paintings are for sale, with the proceeds going back to the elephant artists for their care. In addition, jewelry by Steven Wallerstein of Norwalk, CT will be displayed and for sale. His works in silver, copper, and brass are wearable works of art. "Steven's pieces are among my favorite pieces of jewelry because they seem to work well with anything you wear - dressy or casual!" said Ball.
