Compression and Uncompression Are Much Faster Now
The first Beta of WinRAR 4.20 is ready for download. The current version has improved the speed significantly compared to older versions of WinRAR.
Berlin, Germany, May 03, 2012 --(PR.com)-- win.rar GmbH and RARLAB are proud to present the public the first Beta version of WinRAR 4.20. User will realize that the compression speed is up to three times higher than in previous versions and the improvements are valid for RAR and ZIP compression.
Speed Improvements for RAR Compression
Quad core CPUs are becoming mainstream and affordable and users pay more attention to multicore efficiency. Primary target of WinRAR 4.20 has been improving this efficiency.
By utilizing more RAM and improvements in CPU the RAR compression speed in even single core mode CPU has been raised considerably. The main optimization has been made for multicore mode. For the typical average data mix the speed of RAR compression can be twice as fast as WinRAR 4.11. Poorly compressing data such as .jpg and .mp3 even three times faster. Speed difference between current version and previous versions grows with larger number of cores and type of data.
Speed improvements for ZIP Compression
The ZIP Code has been rewritten and is now using similar techniques as in RAR compression, which is making WinRAR 4.2 ZIP compression faster than WinRAR 4.11, even in single core mode by about 70%. By utilizing the multicore support in 4.20 ZIP, can be up to 3 times faster than 4.11.
Additional improvements within the beta version of WinRAR 4.20
The RAR format continues to have many advantages like archiving, conversion, security and recovery functions. Recovery functions now also access multiple core processors in order to achieve time-savings when repairing files.
