Urban Eats Announces Opening in Hillcrest

The local eatery offers a range of classics and twists on traditional dishes.

San Diego, CA, April 19, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Urban Eats, Hillcrest’s newest local eatery, today announced that it is now open in Hillcrest, Calif. The 1,000 square-foot restaurant combines all natural meats and locally-sourced ingredients to create an urban menu including gourmet sandwiches and salads, classic appetizers and twists on traditional entrees.

The restaurant, with seating for 31 inside and eight outside, offers Mary’s Farm free-range chicken, Niman Ranch hormone free pork, Imperial Farms American-Kobe beef and locally-sourced produce from Specialty Produce.

“I am at home with this food, and I believe it speaks to what the Hillcrest vibe is all about,” said Chris Sayre, Urban Eats Owner and Executive Chef. “Being the only restaurant on the block that serves craft beer before dinner time, our happy hour will be a hit.”

The urban-industrial inspired environment is organic and welcoming, with natural woods, metals and solid, festive tones. Walls are decked with historical artwork, compliments of the San Diego Historical Society, and showcases Hillcrest in the 1940’s.

Lunch entrees include the pork confit tacos with napa slaw, pupya tomatillo salsa, avocado and micro cilantro, the Kobe beef tacos with sambal fresco, avocado, sriracha crème fresh and micro cilantro; and more.

Dinner entrees include braised Kobe beef with blue cheese smashed potatoes, roasted mushrooms and spinach; sesame crusted ahi with wasabi smashed potatoes, stir fry vegetables, crispy wonton’s and urban yaki sauce and more.

Sandwiches include the steak + blue, the grilled cheese duo, the urban veggie Panini and more. Sandwiches will be served during lunch and dinner.

Salads include the Sophia house salad, the apple + cherry salad, the Hillcrest chop shop salad and more. Salads are served during lunch and dinner.

Urban Eats also offers happy hour daily from 3:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m. Appetizers including the ahi crudo, bruchetta blue, bruchetta green, pork sliders, siriacha avo + chips and daily cheese selection range from $3-$5. House red and white wines and local craft beers are offered for $4 and $3, respectively.
