Commit 2B Fit Launches New Website, Social Media Campaign

Hollywood, FL, April 19, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Commit 2B Fit (www.icommit2bfit.org), a nonprofit that provides a groundbreaking health and wellness program to elementary schools throughout South Florida, has announced it is launching a new website and corresponding social media campaign. According to Commit 2B Fit cofounder Michelle Schecht, the change is more than cosmetic and anticipates a shift in the nonprofit’s educational and communications model.

“As our programs have grown, we’ve recognized the need for greater interactivity, Schecht said. “This new website allows for that and also expands our infrastructure to prepare for the day when the teaching portion of the Commit 2B Fit program will move online.”

Currently, Commit 2B Fit’s school program is being implemented in 155 schools throughout South Florida. The program is folded into each school day to teach nutrition, promote physical activity and encourage goal setting with an ultimate objective of creating healthy habits. An independent study published in a peer-reviewed article in 2008 found that Commit 2B Fit “may very well be the ‘Solution’ program” for the childhood obesity epidemic.

More than 300,000 children have participated in the Commit 2B Fit program over the past seven years, according to Schecht. The audience of Commit 2B Fit constituents also includes thousands of parents, guardians and teachers. The organization’s new social media campaign will target this core group with an effort to create and implement social interactions across multiple platforms.

“Now that the Commit 2B Fit program is well established, we want to develop a layer that will reinforce the core principals of the program,” Schecht said. “Creating positive habits is all about repetition and reinforcement. That’s why we’re incorporating custom functionalities and engagement strategies into our network—we want individuals, and especially children, to maintain a high level of momentum so they can lock in healthy habits that will last a lifetime.”
