Spirited New Fables The Unseen Paths of the Forest Published by Outskirts Press

Poet and author Simona Panaitescu’s newest collection of thirteen tales of love and friendship for children offers a graceful, natural world where an evanescent magic is created by the kind acts and careful love of one small creature for another.

Bucharest, Romania, April 21, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Accomplished poet and author Simona Panaitescu announced today the release of The Unseen Paths of the Forest, 13 Tales about Love and Friendship, published by Outskirts Press. In these beautifully written tales Panaitescu imbues a world of marvelous animals with a spirited life force to show her juvenile readers the secrets to love and friendship as she unfolds the mysteries of the forest.

From badgers to bears, from hedgehogs to otters, one delightful forest creature after another stars in this series of thirteen stories that show that even for the simplest animal, a life story is itself a love story. With narrative charm and poetic grace Panaitescu offers her mythic tales to delight children and, frankly, adults alike as she shows how even the quietest act of love can rejuvenate both the donor and the recipient.

The volume’s first tale, “The Rabbit and the Turtle” is exemplary of the depth of each of the rich fables the author has created. As these two forest denizens trade creations of smooth stone and brilliant flower patterns with each other near the entrance to a secret glade, the ancient turtle is led to a gentle epiphany about her own act of love. Slowly, thoughtfully the author brings her to an understanding of life that rekindles her connection with all of nature and ends her sadness and isolation.

Each tale is a carefully crafted little tour of force that shows why author Panaitescu has been a recipient of a number of distinguished literary awards. Her collection of poetry, About Greed and Longing, won a debut prize from the Vinea Publishing House in 2000, and The Secret Mirror won another debut prize from the Romanian Cultural Foundation in 1999.

Her story “The Dog,” one of the thirteen tales in The Unseen Paths of the Forest, has already won the National Prize for Children’s Literature of the Benefica Publishing House in 2010.
