Taylor Morrison Southern California Announces Energy-Saving "Elem3nts" Program in Time for Earth Day
Homebuilder helping Californians conserve energy by adding energy efficiency to all its new homes.
Irvine, CA, April 22, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Taylor Morrison Southern California is giving Californians a chance to find not only their perfect new home, but also the most energy-efficient home available with the homebuilder’s new energy-saving Elem3nts program.
Announced in time for Earth Day, the Elem3nts program focuses on energy efficiency with homes that feature higher R-value insulation, low-E windows, radiant barriers and other energy-saving features to provide homeowners with the best possible home and a smaller energy bill.
“After your mortgage payment, the second largest expense when it comes to homeownership is the energy bill,” Division President Phil Bodem said. “We aim to help Californians reduce the size of that bill while lessening their carbon footprint.”
Taylor Morrison Southern California currently builds new home communities in Irvine, Oceanside and Carlsbad with more neighborhoods debuting in Yorba Linda, Carlsbad and San Juan Capistrano this summer. Where applicable, the communities will also carry HERS®Index ratings, Bodem said.
The index is another part of the homebuilder’s Elem3nts program, which stresses environment, energy and efficiency. Starting on Earth Day, Taylor Morrison communities across the country will display the HERS®Index ratings of the homes built in the community.
The independent HERS®Index system provides a home energy rating that homebuyers can use to quickly compare similar products, making it easier for them to select a home that not only fits their lifestyle, but also offers the lower-energy costs of a more energy-efficient home.
“We always strive to build the best homes we can,” said Sheryl Palmer, Taylor Morrison president and CEO. “Part of that means creating communities that offer the best possible environments in which to live. But we must also concern ourselves with the larger environment – our eco-environment – and the HERS®Index helps us measure our progress.”
The HERS®Index is based on four main components – assessment of building components, diagnostic and performance testing, energy modeling and a final report which delivers the energy rating for the home. The rating system is based on a scale of zero to 150, with a lower number indicating better energy efficiency. A typical new home built in the U.S. averages a score of 100, with older homes scoring closer to 130.
Palmer said the Elem3nts program offers homebuyers peace of mind in the construction of their home and the opportunity to save money on their utility bills.
“We believe your home should operate as efficiently as possible so you can enjoy cooler summers, warmer winters and lower energy bills,” Palmer said. “Our homes are built to maximize that energy efficiency and the HERS®Index helps us communicate that to buyers.”
