A new study highlights the top five cosmetic surgeries of 2011 and reveals that Americans are still investing in liposuction despite their tight wallets.
Edison, NJ, April 25, 2012 --(PR.com)-- More Americans had plastic surgery done in 2011 than the previous year despite dwindling bank accounts.
Plastic surgeons at the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery revealed last month cosmetic procedures increased to 1.6 million procedures done in 2011, a one percent increase from 2010. While minor procedures decreased two percent, more than 7.5 million procedures were performed in 2011.
The top five most popular surgeries were:
1- Liposuction
2- Breast implants
3- Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck)
4- Eyelid surgery
5- Breast lift
Top five non-surgical procedures were:
1- Botulinum Toxin Type A (Botox)
2- Hyaluronic acid (wrinkle treatment)
3- Laser hair removal
4- Microdermabrasion
5- IPL laser treatment (for treatment of skin irregularities)
Since the ASAPS started collecting data in 1997, the number of procedures has increased 197 percent overall. Other popular procedures include rhinoplasty, more commonly referred to as a nose job, face-lifts and eyelid contouring, for more youthful looks.
"The increase of surgical and non-surgical procedures reflects the increase of trust in plastic surgeons today," said Dr. Shain Cuber, a board-certified plastic surgeon.
Nowadays people want to stay looking younger to compete with younger competitors in the workplace. Since most Americans are staying at their jobs longer, they don't want to give away their age through their looks, said Cuber.
