The hand crafted watch contains materials and symbols inherent to New Orleans including ivory from a French Quarter piano found in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, the crescent shape of the city and the fleur de lis.

New Orleans, LA, April 28, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The recently formed New Orleans Watch Company will launch the first watch ever to be created in New Orleans at a gala event at the Martin Lawrence Galleries, 433 Royal Street, in the heart of the French Quarter on Thursday, May 3, 2012 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. The event is by invitation only and will feature special musical guests Johnny Sansone and John Fohl and will benefit the New Orleans Musicians Assistance Fund and the New Orleans Musicians Clinic with funds earmarked for screening and treatment of prostate cancer and colonoscopies.

The hand crafted, custom designed watch has a nautical theme with an ebony bezel and a dial made of ivory which was sourced from a French Quarter piano in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. A solid 18 karat rose gold Chapter ring and fleur de lis are placed off center to create a crescent shape, both hallmarks of New Orleans. The Chapter ring, reminiscent of a ship's wheel, frames a porthole, through which the balance wheel of the Soprod 25-jewel automatic movement becomes visible. Each watch shows the coordinates of New Orleans’ latitude and longitude designation (29/90 degrees) also referenced in the caliber number of the movement which is 2990.

Craig von Babylon, the founder and owner of New Orleans Watch Company, is well known to natives and visitors of the city as the president of Couronne Jewels and Watches, a family-owned business that has served the Greater New Orleans area for over 40 years. Mr. von Babylon remarked, “We are proud to present the first timepiece of any kind to be produced in New Orleans and to capture the rhythm, beat and eccentric character of the city."
