UK Based Expedition Outfitters to Attempt a Crossing of Europe's Largest Glacier
A UK based expedition outfitter has announced plans to make one of the first commercial crossings of Europe’s largest glacier, the famous Vatnajokull ice cap in Iceland.
London, United Kingdom, April 29, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Tom Evans, an experienced expedition guide working with Secret Compass will lead a group of ten adventurers on the twelve day expedition which will also make an attempt at the country's tallest peak, Hvannadalshnukúr, standing 2,110 metres above sea level.
The Vatnajokull Glacier lies in the south west of the Iceland - the land of fire and Ice - just hours from mainland Europe. The expedition promises spectacular views of great volcanoes, breathtaking glaciers and the opportunity to see the world renowned Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights.
The team will travel on cross country skis across the awe inspiring landscape, pulling all the necessary kit and equipment in pulks, an age-old method of travel used in both the Arctic and Antarctic.
“This expedition will provide a fantastic opportunity to experience polar style adventure, quite befitting in this centenary year of Scott's great expedition to the South Pole, and all within the boundaries of Europe,” says Tom, the guide who has led expeditions around the world including a recent attempt to summit Iraq’s highest peak. “There is no particular skill or experience required for joining the team, a sense of adventure and good level of fitness is all that is required.”
The 12 day expedition departs the UK on the 13th July returning on the 24th. Full details, including cost, can be found on the Secret Compass website.
