Positive Vibe Café Supporters Gather at The Diamond to Break Guinness World Record

The Richmond-based non-profit partners with the Richmond Flying Squirrels to raise funds and break Guinness World Record for Most Simultaneous High-Fives.

Richmond, VA, April 29, 2012 --(PR.com)-- It’s called Hi5RVA. And people all over Richmond are buzzing about it. Positive Vibe Café – which provides training in the food service industry for people with disabilities – is trying to raise awareness and funds for its nationally recognized training program, so it has partnered with the Richmond Flying Squirrels to produce “Hi5RVA,” a fun, family-oriented fundraiser on Thursday, May 10th at The Diamond.

Supporters will gather at 6:35pm during the Squirrels home game against the Bowie Baysox and attempt to break the Guinness World Record for Most Simultaneous High-Fives, a record currently held by 3,504 employees of Zappos.com, during a meeting on March 5th in Las Vegas.

Positive Vibe Café will benefit directly from special “Hi5RVA Fundraising Tickets” being sold at the Café, located at 2825 Hathaway Rd in Richmond. There will also be ways to contribute to the program during and after the game, including sales of limited edition “World Record Holder” t-shirts.

The Positive Vibe Café and its training program recently celebrated its 500th graduate, and has received national recognition for its unique program, from the national Muscular Dystrophy Association, Paralyzed Veterans of America and has been featured on NBC Nightly News as well as the CBS Early Show.

“Our training program is free, and we rely on the generosity of the Richmond community to keep it going strong” says Garth Larcen, Postive Vibe Café co-founder. “Hi5RVA is our city-wide attempt to raise awareness and funds for the Vibe and give something back to Richmonders who have supported our Café and the program for the past 10 years.”

The group hopes to raise at least $50,000 with Hi5RVA and a host of smaller events throughout May, such as its popular local music festival “Vibefest,” which takes place on May 20th at the Stratford Hills Shopping Center

“Everyone loves the Vibe and the Squirrels. I couldn’t think of a better venue to bring Richmonders together than a fun-filled night at The Diamond,” says Positive Vibe Board Member Dave Saunders, President of Madison+Main. “With an average home attendance of over 6,600 and lots of publicity, we’re going to pack the house, break a record and have a ton of fun. Sorry, Zappos. Your record is going down.”
