Accountants for Social Good Seeks to Double Membership in 2012

With an explosive first quarter of 2012, ASG looks to surpass a doubling of total membership numbers by the end of the fiscal year.

San Francisco, CA, April 29, 2012 --(PR.com)-- With over one hundred members and over $125,000 in total loans to date, popular microlending team Accountants for Social Good (ASG) is looking to double the number of members by the end of 2012. Started just eighteen months ago, ASG has seen a large influx of loans from new members and in sheer number of new members in the last five months alone, and expects that the trend will continue after tax season.

"Clearly, from about mid-February to April 17th, we were prepared for a relative slow-down from lending and membership to ASG, given that CPAs and tax preparers are usually up to their ears in tax prep," said Mindy Tran, ASG's Chief Loan Analyst. "Surprisingly, there was not that much of a slowdown of either new members or loans during that eight week span. We think it goes to show that participation in ASG is something that our members can engage in relatively easily and painlessly, and even with a minute or two of spare time."

With that said, the owners and operators of Accountants for Social Good anticipate that the buzz around the explosive Kiva lending team is reason for growth even during slow season, and expect another influx of new members now that tax prep season is over. The founder, Justin Curzi, has been pleased thus far with his new venture after handing over the reins of his accounting website development firm, Emochila, to Thomson Reuters in December.

"I'd be lying if I said that the outlook of this endeavor wasn't a catalyst in the sale of Emochila back in December," he said. "I was never a CPA myself and I wasn't knee-deep in the development of Emochila's software. My engagement was entirely sales-side. With Accountants for Social Good, I truly feel proud of myself and my team with each and every loan we make. I'm able to introduce all those business relationships (garnered during eight years with Emochila) to the new idea of microlending. It's a tangible, real, direct way of actually improving the world and helping those who really need it. The world doesn't need another iPhone or Droid app!"

Currently, Accountants for Social Good has passed industry stalwarts like Microsoft and Intel on the Businesses page of Kiva. They are currently ranked number six all time, and will pass number five this coming month. Additionally, ASG's parent company, The Microlending Fund, is set to launch it's own namesake team in June, catering to businesses outside the accounting realm. You can join the team by creating a Kiva account, searching for "Accountants for Social Good" on Kiva and clicking the orange "Join Team" button. Currently, Kiva is offering one free loan to new members, which is has proven a popular way to introduce people unfamiliar with microlending to the new wave of charitable lending.
