Taylor Morrison Arizona Debuts Energy-Saving “Elem3nts” Program in Time for Earth Day 2012

Taylor Morrison Arizona has 22 communities throughout the Valley, stretching from Peoria to Gilbert.

Phoenix, AZ, May 02, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Taylor Morrison Arizona has announced that all of its new home communities will now carry energy ratings based on the energy-conscious HERS®Index, giving Arizonans an opportunity to discover the most energy-efficient home available for their family.

Taylor Morrison Arizona has 22 communities throughout the Valley, stretching from Peoria to Gilbert. As part of the program, all Taylor Morrison Arizona homes will be built to Energy Star 3.0 specifications with 100 percent Energy Star rated appliances. Radiant barrier roof sheathing, high efficiency 14-SEER air conditioning, low-E vinyl framed windows and programmable thermostats are also included. The eco-driven features are part of the homebuilder’s new Elem3nts program, which stresses environment, energy and efficiency.

Combining these features with Taylor Morrison’s pre-paid solar lease option means Phoenix homeowners have the opportunity to save as much as 67 percent on their energy bills, Division President Charlie Enochs said.

“With the Arizona summer fast approaching, the looming electricity bill can be daunting for some homeowners,” Enochs said. “But considering how new homes on average are 30 percent more efficient than existing homes and our Elem3nts program enhances that even further, the time to find a more energy-efficient home has never been better.”

Starting on Earth Day, Taylor Morrison communities across the country will display the HERS®Index ratings of the homes built in the community.

“The independent HERS®Index system provides a home energy rating that homebuyers can use for quick comparison, similar to miles per gallon (MPG) ratings for the auto industry, making it easier for them to select a home that not only fits their lifestyle, but also offers lower-energy usage,” Enochs said.

“We always strive to build the best homes we can,” said Sheryl Palmer, Taylor Morrison president and CEO. “Part of that means creating communities that offer the best possible environments in which to live. But we must also concern ourselves with the larger environment – our eco-environment – and the HERS®Index helps us measure our progress.”

The HERS®Index is based on four main components – assessment of building components, diagnostic and performance testing, energy modeling and a final report which delivers the energy rating for the home. The rating system is based on a scale of zero to 150, with a lower number indicating better energy efficiency. A typical new home built in the U.S. averages a score of 100, with older homes scoring closer to 130.

Palmer said the Elem3nts program offers homebuyers peace of mind in the construction of their home and the opportunity to save money on their utility bills.

“We believe your home should operate as efficiently as possible so you can enjoy cooler summers, warmer winters and lower energy bills,” Palmer said. “Our homes are built to maximize that energy efficiency and the HERS®Index helps us communicate that to buyers.”
