Cloud Security: New Video and White Paper
No silver lining for cloud computing if you don’t keep control of your security. Businesses risk trouble if they rely on cloud suppliers to keep their data secure, according to independent cyber security experts Company85.
London, United Kingdom, May 05, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Businesses risk trouble if they rely on cloud suppliers to keep their data secure, according to independent cyber security experts Company85.
More and more businesses are looking to migrate enterprise applications and sensitive data into the cloud. In a new 4-minute video, Company85’s head of marketing and research, Laurie Menear, explains why organisations must retain responsibility for their own security policies:
- Third party certification of cloud service provider (CSPs) is on its way – but it’s not there yet
- Your normal security policies (e.g. access control, encryption, etc.) must apply to your CSP, not the other way round
- You need to be able to audit multi-tenanted CSP environments across multiple geographies
- You need to be able to get data back, move it and make sure it’s wiped
- You need an exit plan for your CSP
Menear explains: “Cloud security is about the same issues IT departments have always faced, but in the context of cloud. That means understanding the additional risks of multi-tenanted environments, multiple cloud service providers (CSPs), multiple countries and so on. Each extra layer creates more potential vulnerabilities.”
Menear adds: “You can’t leave it to your CSP to dictate terms. It’s vital to be able to get your data back, to be able to move it to another provider, and to make sure there’s no residual data left lying around. One day, you will want to change CSP, so be prepared from the start.”
The video can be viewed at: www.company85.com/secure-cloud-computing-executive-guide-white-paper, and visitors can also download a free white paper including a 20-point instant self-assessment, allowing them to benchmark their own governance and security controls.
