Pilgrim Lutheran School to Hold Open House for 2012-2013 Year
Pilgrim Lutheran School (PLS) will be hosting an open house for new families looking to enroll for the 2012-2013 school year which will take place on May 31st on campus at 5650 Southwest Hall Blvd in Beaverton.
Beaverton, OR, May 06, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Pilgrim’s doors will be open all day for the open house, inviting families of Preschool 3's - 8th grade to tour the school, interview students and staff, see classes in action, and come to the spring musical taking place at 7pm, which will highlight the school’s 1-4th grade students.
Recent cuts in public school funding, classes being removed from schools across the city, and full school closures have created an uptick in admissions. “There has been an increase in families looking for another solution,” said Mr. Jim Riedl, principal of PLS. “Our small class sizes, individualized attention, and high academic scores have been a draw for new families.”
On April 20th, the Oregonian reported that 344 positions would be cut from the Beaverton School District, stating that class sizes would increase and certain sports would no longer be funded in an effort to slice nearly $37 million from the 2012-13 public school budget.
As a private school, PLS is funded through private tuition and volunteer efforts, immune from public school budget cuts. PLS offers a safe learning environment and opportunities for student involvement in music, sports, in-house library and extracurricular activities. The average PLS student ranks in the top academic 5% nationally.
Nutrition is another issue that is top of mind for families. Recent studies of school lunches across the nation have uncovered a trend in high caloric, low-nutritional lunches being offered to children. “Our healthy lunch program is a win-win for the kids and their families,” said Cynthia Dixon, School Lunch Coordinator at PLS. "Everything we serve is always homemade, right down to the salad dressings for our daily salads."
Potential parents visiting the open house are invited to have a complementary lunch during their tour over the lunch hour (11am-12:30pm).
“2013 marks our 33rd year of operation,” highlights Mr. Riedl. “We are in growth mode and excited to welcome new families.”
