Savant Books Releases Mila Komarnisky's Epic Novel, "Wretched Land" in Multi-eBook Formats
Savant Books and Publications LLC, Honolulu, Hawaii, announces the release of Mila Komarnisky's' epic historical romance novel about the Ukraine, "Wretched Land" in multiple eBook formats.
Honolulu, HI, May 06, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Dmytro Verbitsky, an impoverished Ukrainian aristocrat, is actively engaged in the WWI, the Civil War and the WWII. Despite the cruelty of Stalin’s regime, he manages to raise a loving family, avenges his wife’s rape, learns to understand and forgive his father’s suicide, and nurtures hopes for Ukraine’s independence.
The novel "Wretched Land" describes the passionate love, the intense suffering and the miraculous survival of one family who lived in Ukraine through the hardships of World War One, a Civil War and World War Two, the famines of 1921, 1932-33 and 1947, and a cruel Stalinist regime. The story is fictional but it is interwoven into the fabric of Ukrainian history.
The love between Dmytro Verbitsky, an impoverished aristocrat turned farmer, and Khrystina, daughter of a wealthy landowner, carries their family through the horrors of the twentieth century that befell Ukraine. As wars rage and famines threaten the livelihood of their children, Dmytro and Khrystina show resolve and teach their children about compassion in the face of adversity. "Wretched Land" takes readers on an unforgettable journey into the heart of a land and a people built on pain, passion, and hope for a better future.
Mila Komarnisky, a Canadian citizen, spent her childhood in the eastern part of Ukraine. She has a Ph.D. degree in nutrition and metabolism from the University of Alberta, Canada, and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Diploma from the Kharkiv Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Institute in Ukraine. As a Doctor of Philosophy, she was invited to work as a postgraduate researcher at Louisiana State University. After an illness, she retired, took a novel writing course at the Winghill Writing School, Ontario, Canada, and is now pursuing a career as a novelist.
"Now the world knows that millions of Ukrainians died during the famine of 1932-33," says Komarnisky. "However, very few know how those who survived lived through the wars, the revolution and the famines that raged in the country. This epic novel describes a hypothetical family that lived through all those times and reflects their feelings, thoughts and dreams." Komarnisky continues: "I wrote this novel for everyone who thinks that their life is not happy enough, that they are missing something that would make their life more meaningful."
