Campbell Law School to Host Gen. William K. Suter as Graduation Speaker on May 11
Raleigh, NC, May 09, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Melissa Essary, dean of the Campbell Law School (http://law.campbell.edu), has announced that Gen. William K. Suter, clerk of the U.S. Supreme Court, will deliver the commencement address at Campbell Law School’s graduation ceremony on Friday, May 11. The ceremony is slated for 10 a.m. in downtown Raleigh at Meymandi Concert Hall, located at the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts.
Suter, who also sits on the Campbell Law School Board of Visitors, has served as clerk of the U.S. Supreme Court since 1991. He is the 19th person to hold that position. Prior to joining the Supreme Court, Suter was a career Army judge advocate, retiring with the rank of major general.
During his career, Suter has served in numerous positions of responsibility around the world, including appellate judge, deputy staff judge advocate of the U.S. Army Vietnam, staff judge advocate of the 101st Airborne Division, commandant of the JAG School, and the assistant judge advocate general of the Army. His military awards include the Distinguished Service Medal, the Bronze Star Medal, and the Parachutist Badge.
Suter is a graduate of Trinity University in San Antonio and the Tulane University School of Law in New Orleans. He attended Trinity on a basketball scholarship and Tulane on an academic scholarship. Suter worked on the Tulane Law Review and was elected to the Order of the Coif. He is a graduate of the Judge Advocate General School’s graduate course, the Command and General Staff College, and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.
