Henryville Golden Band lost both of their Equipment Trucks in the Tornado on March 2, 2012 in Henryville, IN.
Henryville, IN, May 10, 2012 --(PR.com)-- On March 2, 2012, the small community of Henryville, Indiana was hit by an EF4 tornado. The town lost many homes, businesses and its school was very badly damaged. Everyone began the task of assessing the damage and loss. The school, which housed Pre-school through 12th Grade, was no longer able to hold classes in its facility.
As a result of the tornado, the Henryville Golden Band lost both of their Equipment Trucks. The main truck was used to transport the band instruments, uniforms, guard equipment, and props to all of their performances. The second truck was used primarily for storage. The process of replacing the Main Equipment Truck has now begun. The former truck was a 24-foot Low Boy and will be replaced with a similar vehicle.
The Henryville Golden Band is well known throughout Indiana for its “Tradition of Excellence”. Bands and choirs compete in ISSMA competitions, which include marching, solo/ensemble, and concert. The Color Guard competes in IHSCGA competitions and the Percussion competes in IPA competitions. These competitions take place all over the state of Indiana. The Golden Band also performs in the Pegasus Parade and other local community parades and concerts.
The music program receives approximately $2,000 per year from the school budget. The rest of the money is raised by the Henryville Golden Band Boosters via fundraising. This organization is the main support of the music program, which includes band, chorus, and guard. The boosters purchase large items - such as trucks, trailers, and an ATV to use in the music program.
