Now Live on iGavelAuctions.com: Property from a New Canaan Private Collector
iGavel Auctions associate seller Nye & Company’s auction is now featured on www.iGavelAuctions.com until May 22nd, 2012.
New York, NY, May 11, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The Nye & Company auction comprises a collection gathered over a few decades while the owners lived in an impressive Georgian style brick home set on a bucolic pond in the rolling hills of Connecticut.
The collection, influenced by the fact that the couple lived abroad at various times, has an understandable emphasis on English and Chinese furniture and decorations.
The William IV Breakfront Bookcase is a featured lot along with the Victorian Mahogany Terrestrial Globe, made by the London and Edinburgh firm of W. & A.K. Johnston. There is also a large Brass-Mounted Chinese Hardwood Cabinet, among other pieces. A Baroque Style Brass Six-Light Chandelier is a nice large size and complements the Georgian Style Brass Two-Light Wall Sconces and Georgian Style Giltwood Wall Brackets.
In addition to the more traditional pieces are pieces by Baker Furniture, Henredon and Maitland Smith. A Georgian Style Suite of Case Furniture and a George III Style Mahogany Sideboard are in the auction from Council Craftsman. High quality upholstered sofas, settees and club chairs covered in first-rate fabrics demonstrate the quality and longevity of the items.
Nye and Company recently relocated to a new and expanded location at 20 Beach Street in Bloomfield, NJ, adjacent to the Garden State Parkway and 20 minutes west of New York City. “It is extremely exciting and encouraging to have finally found a building that is the perfect fit,” said John Nye.
