CVESD and Balfour Beatty Construction Hold Groundbreaking for Enrique S. Camarena Elementary School
Chula Vista, CA, May 12, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The Chula Vista Elementary School District and Balfour Beatty Construction broke ground Tuesday, May 8 on the district’s next school, Enrique S. Camarena Elementary. The school is named after a former marine, police officer and Drug Enforcement Administration agent whose death at the hands of a Mexican drug cartel in 1985 sparked what is now Red Ribbon Week in schools across the nation.
The new $28.8 million, 67,253-square-foot school will feature an administration building; a multipurpose building with library, food service and childcare; and two, two-story classroom buildings with 16 classrooms each. Each classroom will have enhanced technology to display curriculum, class/student work, instructional materials and Internet information. Breakout work areas will be located between classrooms. The school site will also feature covered walkways, lunch shelters and shade structures.
Designed by Ruhnau Ruhnau Clark Architects, Camarena Elementary is located at 1650 Exploration Falls Drive in the Otay Ranch Village 11 area in Chula Vista. The project is being funded by community facilities district/Mello-Roos revenue. The estimated completion date is June 2013, and will be open in July 2013 for the 2013-14 school year.
The Balfour Beatty Construction team working on the project includes Brian Cahill, executive vice president-Operations, CCM, LEED®AP, Richard Bruce, senior vice president; Michelle Reiner, project manager; Wayne Kibbe, field superintendent; and David Kuhle, project engineer.
