Gc Media: Speaker of the New York City Council is Expecting Another Miracle
Nationwide campaign to raise $1 from 6,000 families for the Row with the Tide ocean rowboat is launched in New York City.
New York, NY, May 12, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Two Sundays ago at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, located in Brooklyn, New York, Speaker Quinn joined Pastor Dr. Rev. Johnny Ray Youngblood, Victor Mooney and the congregation for an impromptu version of the Clark Sisters "Expect Your Miracle." From the pulpit, Mr. Mooney addressed the congregation about his cause.
Today, the Speaker of City Council released a statement in support of Mr. Mooney's current effort for a 600 mile coastal row from New York City to Washington, D.C. in collaboration with the AIDS 2012 Conference this July.
“Victor Mooney’s planned journey is as incredible as it is brave. Some thirty years since the first diagnosis of an epidemic that changed our lives forever, we are still dealing with its spread into our communities. From Brooklyn to Africa and beyond, this is a battle we continue to face. It is important to remember that our most powerful weapon in the fight against HIV/AIDS is, and always has been, our voice." - Speaker Christine Quinn.
Mooney is hoping to raise the final $6,000.00 for a custom rowboat, before it can be shipped from Sao Paulo, Brazil to New York. Kingsborough Community College/ Maritime Technology and SUNY Maritime College have also pledged technical assistance towards the project.
"I'm sure President Obama's message on Marriage Equality was certainly on the hearts of many. We strongly agree that Marriage Equality also promotes HIV prevention and reduces the stigma associated with HIV testing," Mooney said at his Forest Hills home. Mooney will also use this same vessel for his fourth bid to row from Africa to Brooklyn later this year.
