Even Coaches Need a Coach - Olympic Athlete/Coach Scott Gregory to Address Elite Coaches Session at Prof'L Skaters Assoc Int'L Conference, Boston, May 26th
In sports, often the best coaches are former players who know the ins, outs, and mindsets of their athletes. But Scott Gregory asserts, “A great coach of a sport’s mechanics is not all that is needed to inspire an athlete to greatness.”
Newark, DE, May 19, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Scott Gregory, coach and former Olympic athlete will speak on Saturday, May 26th, during the coaches invitation-only session for the Professional Skaters Association International Conference and Trade Show (05/24-05/26/12) at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel.
A coach since shortly after his final Olympics appearance in 1988, Gregory applied his own transforming, sometimes tragic experiences to his coaching techniques, and discovered key motivating triggers. He will offer these distinctive insights into the passion that often stunts or hopefully stimulates an athlete’s motivation to excel— and persevere to win.
After numerous injuries that would have permanently sidelined many athletes, Gregory learned the power of inner strength that made him a two-time US Nationals Champion, ranked him fifth in the world, and took him twice to the Olympics.
In his 2010 book, Champion Mindset: Refusing to Give Up Your Dreams, Gregory bared the passion, pain, and perseverance required to be competitive; and maintains that when faced with extreme adversity, the human spirit can prevail.
Gregory coaches youth athletes to recognize the power of mind / body / spirit in their daily thoughts, and apply it to their dreams and goals. His contribution to the early training of Tara Lipinski was rewarded in her Olympic Gold Medal (1998 Winter Olympics, Nagano, Japan); and at fifteen, the youngest gold medalist of a Winter Games.
Taking his winning concepts off the ice into the boardroom, Gregory consults with companies, their management and employees, to relate their personal and professional ambitions to the Champion Mindset methodology.
When possible, Gregory also offers his insights to young athletes' parents, helping them understand the intense passion that drives their child to compete and excel. “My daughter, Gabriella is twelve years old and a competitive figure skater,” Evelyn Calandra said in a note to Scott. “As I read each page (of Champion Mindset) I began to understand the love of a sport that can drive a person to want to do this. As a parent I am grateful for being given this opportunity to look into the ‘mind’ of an athlete … you have helped me understand my daughter a little better.”
Speaking to skating coaches at the PSA conference, Gregory will discuss his “champion mindset” techniques and how the coaches can utilize them to go beyond the sport’s mechanics and motivate their students to a winning attitude. He provides astute commentary and entertaining behind-the-scenes anecdotes about the life of a competitive athlete, and tips on how to attain a Champion Mindset.
