Saint Augustine is Now on MySpace; Will Blog the Confessions
Villanova, PA, June 09, 2007 --(PR.com)-- The Augustinians of the Province of Saint Thomas of Villanova are happy to announce that Saint Augustine of Hippo is now on MySpace, the social networking website growing in popularity among many generations.
The Augustinians have created a profile for Saint Augustine on MySpace, which enables Augustine to socialize in cyberspace by creating online friendships with those interested in learning about the Augustinian tradition. Augustine’s profile includes features such as, links to music and books written by Augustine, a listing of Augustinian related websites, a video about the Augustinians and a blog written by Augustine.
Starting August 28, the feast day of Saint Augustine, Augustine will regularly blog The Confessions on his profile. The translation of The Confessions which will be posted is published by New City Press in association with the Augustinian Heritage Institute. The Institute is a non-profit board which oversees “The Works of Saint Augustine,” a modern scholarly translation of all Augustine’s works into English. The series is being published by New City Press. Professors who include The Confessions as reading material on their syllabi can use Augustine’s profile as a supplement to course materials. Students are able to post comments on the individual entries of The Confessions.
“Augustine’s writings are as relevant today as they were in the 5th century,” says Michael Dolan, Director of Communications for the Augustinians of the Province of Saint Thomas of Villanova. “We hope his presence on MySpace will open up Augustine to a new audience… and new friends.”
The recent addition of Saint Augustine to the growing social world of MySpace enables the Augustinian community to reach out to a more diverse audience in a modern facet. To learn more, check out Saint Augustine’s profile at www.myspace.com/saintaugustineofhippo.
