VASTEC Now Offering Section 508 Certification

Washington, DC, May 20, 2012 --(PR.com)-- VASTEC, a document conversion, digital services, and content accessibility provider, is introducing a new service offering clients certification that their documents comply with and exceed accessibility standards as set forth by Section 508 of the Workforce Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended. The company now offers “Section 508 Certification” for documents it reviews and repairs through processes and standards VASTEC has developed.

Section 508 applies to all Federal agencies that develop, procure, maintain, or use electronic information technology, requiring that information be accessible to employees and members of the public with disabilities. As information technology is in constant development, standards for meeting these requirements are continually examined by the Access Board.

“While there is a growing demand for Section 508 compliant material, there is also growing need for service providers who can provide the expertise necessary to comply with the requirements,” said Richard Salem, CEO of VASTEC. “Our new certification process meets this need by auditing and repairing documents to VASTEC’s developed accessibility standards which meet or exceed those defined under Section 508."

Certification to VASTEC’s developed Accessibility Standards ensures that individuals using assistive technologies like screen reader software not only have “access” to the text in the documents, but are able to quickly and easily navigate the document in the same fashion as a sighted reader. Modern screen reader software programs, such as JAWS, offer navigation functions and keyboard commands that require the document to be processed in a fashion that allows those commands to work, processing beyond that of merely tagging or structuring the document.

Documents certified to VASTEC’s Accessibility Standards offer screen reader users an equivalent experience with electronic documents as a sighted reader including enhanced navigation abilities and quick access to the document structure and reading order, images and graphics, paragraph headings, list items, hyperlinks, simple and complex tables, charts, and graphs, as well as interactive, fillable forms.

VASTEC has wide ranging experience in serving Federal clients at the highest level of government, under strict security protocols. Agencies that have utilized VASTEC services include the Social Security Administration, US Department of the Treasury, the General Services Administration, Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the Surgeon General, and the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

“Working with federal information requires utmost attention to security and protocol, as well as the willingness and ability to work with individual agencies and customize our processes to meet their specific information management needs,” Salem said. “VASTEC has repeatedly proven that we can meet these wide ranging challenges, which has been proven by the high volume of work we receive from Federal clients.”

VASTEC also services both government and commercial clients as a premier provider of document scanning, digital services, document and records management systems and solutions, and Section 508 document repair and training. VASTEC can process sensitive and classified information through its secure production facilities or on-customer-sites nationwide.”
