Slam Global attends Re:publica 2012 in Berlin: Europe’s New Technology Hub

From Twitter and Mercedes Benz to the founders of the Pirate Party, the stellar line-up of Re:publica 2012 shows that Berlin is where it’s at for all things digital. Now in its sixth year, the three-day conference with a Festival feeling has grown into an international networking event with topics ranging from net-politics, to innovation in design and communications.

London, United Kingdom, May 23, 2012 --(PR.com)-- From Twitter and Daimler to the founders of the Pirate Party, the stellar line-up of Re:publica 2012 shows that Berlin is where it’s at for all things digital. Now in its sixth year, the three-day conference with a Festival feeling has grown into an international networking event with topics ranging from net-politics, to innovation in design and communications.

London branding agency Slam Global took part in this year’s extravaganza, which consisted of 200 hours of program, spread over eight stages. The motto of the conference was “ACT!ON”, symbolizing the role social media and digital innovation is playing and how technologies are disrupting business as we know it. The conference is a place for online communities, innovators, net-activists as well as established organisations to exchange ideas and experiences. What ensures the success of the Re:publica is that it’s not a marketing event with usual share of sales and self-promotion, but rather a platform to crowd source solutions to some of today’s most prevalent issues. As with SXSW (USA conference / festival), the Re:publica takes a macro view with sub conferences to each topic, the common denominator being digital: 360 degree conferencing if you will! This is something that has yet to be matched by a UK equivalent.

The event was sold out and boasted an international line-up of speakers such as Katie Jacobs Stanton, Vice President of Market Development at Twitter, Johann Jungwirth, President & CEO of Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America and branding consultant extraordinaire Cindy Gallop. Kenyan blogger Mark Kaigwa gave one of the most poignant keynotes on how technology and innovation in Africa is changing the globe. From a small reminder of the sheer size and diversity of the African continent to exploring the branding and PR issues that cloud our view of the so called ‘dark continent’.

Summing up the event, program curator Geraldine de Bastion explains: “The Re:publica is becoming one of the most relevant conferences of its kind. Although it has grown over the years, we’ve managed to retain a friendly and creative ‘class reunion’ atmosphere. I’m so pleased with the amount and quality of international speakers we’ve had this year and I’m sure this trend will continue”.
