Sculptor Creates Jr Invitational Golf Trophies
WNY Business creates coveted trophy for Jr Invitational at Sage Valley.
Sanborn, NY, May 24, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Golfweek has named the Junior Invitational at Sage Valley Golf Club, the #1 Junior Tournament in the world. The second annual event was held outside Augusta, GA April 20-22, and will be featured in a 4 hour special May 21-22 on the Golf Channel. Featuring 57 of the top amateur golfers from 17 countries, this prestigious event was kicked off at the opening ceremony by former President George W Bush. To commemorate the tournament, Shawn Slother was commissioned by Bennett Gallery to sculpt the individual & perpetual bronze trophies.
"It’s wonderful to be associated with this tournament," said Shawn Slother, owner of Sculpture Portraits. "These are the very best junior golfers in the world, and having the opportunity to sculpt the trophies was such an honor. To be asked to attend the tournament and meet the winner was a great experience!”
Slother sculpted the original trophies in clay & wax using traditional methods. The perpetual trophy features reliefs of Bobby Jones, Arnold Palmer, PGA Commissioner Tim Finchem, and the inaugural winner Nicholas Reach. It stands over 20” high, is over 90 lbs, and is inscribed with name of each year’s winner. The individual trophy is half the height and is presented at the close of the tournament.
Known internationally for his sculptures, Slother has created sculptures for The Martin Luther King Jr Foundation, Playboy Corporation, NAACP, GM, Graceland, as well as numerous sculptures for corporations and individuals.
