Senate Candidate, Don Krampe Climbs Mount Whitney

Sacramento, CA, May 25, 2012 --(PR.com)-- With less than two weeks until the California Primary Election, Donald Krampe, the 83 year old candidate for U.S. Senate is scheduled to climb Mount Whitney, the highest summit in the contiguous United States. He will begin the 22 mile hike to the 14,500 foot summit on Thursday, with plans to return to the base on Friday, May 25.

When asked why he is making this trek, at his age and just before the primary, he says, "We are running a grassroots campaign with a very small budget, this was the best way I could think of to get publicity for our campaign." Krampe is a small government fiscal conservative who vows to balance the budget, remove the burdens on small businesses, and secure the border. "The people in Washington are irresponsible with the taxpayers' money and are in the pockets of lobbyists," says Krampe. "When I get there, I will not sell out to lobbyists. My plan is to spend just one term in office and then come back home."

Krampe is just one of 24 U.S. Senate candidates on the California primary election ballot hoping to advance to the general election in November. The "open primary" lumps all political parties together, and the two candidates with the most votes, regardless of party affiliation, will go head-to-head in the General election.

The Korean War veteran has received clearance from his doctor to make the arduous hike, and this former Marine appears to be in great shape. "I can do 20 pull-ups on that bar. How many can you do?" Krampe asked jokingly. He has devoted his life to service. After his tour in the U.S. Marine Corps, Krampe worked with the YMCA, the USO in Viet Nam, and the Veteran's Administration. He was also the co-founder of the Hugh O’Brian Youth Foundation Leadership Program (HOBY) along with his brother Hugh O'Brian.
