A Workshop on Operational Risk Management - Post Financial Crisis: How Firms Can Take an Integrated & Robust Approach to Operational Risk Management
Mumbai, India, May 25, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The Operational Risk Practice Pte. Ltd, Singapore, founded by Mr Rajit Punshi, is a boutique Risk Advisory & Learning firm specializing in Operational Risk. Mr Punshi has been voted as "One of the top 50 Faces in Operational Risk" globally and is one of the leading practitioners and thought leaders in the Operational Risk industry.
Targeted at professionals with at least 5 years of experience in the financial services industry, Mr Punshi has conceptualized a 2-day, limited seating, workshop titled "Operational Risk Management Post-Financial Crisis." The workshop will be held in Mumbai, Dubai and Hong Kong.
The recent global financial crisis highlighted how these operational failures/events no longer occur in isolation. They can impact other risks as well and ultimately create material, reputational and financial impact for firms, far greater than the principal value of the operational loss when first identified. The disclosure of material loss by a leading financial institution in the recent past also points to operational failures.
During this workshop, with the help of case studies and specific working scenarios Mr Punshi will take participants through the implications of the financial crisis on the way Operational risk is understood, managed today and to establish how this risk type should be managed going forward from a strategic and tactical perspective, based on the lessons learnt. The aim of the workshop is to heighten awareness and understanding around some of the critical issues so that firms can make their risk management approaches more integrated and robust, thereby ensuring the sustainability of business objectives going forward.
Whilst Operational risk is a term commonly used for Banks, the reality is that the underlying risks e.g. fraud, product design, mis-selling, money laundering, processing, model risks, misconduct, failure to monitor limits, weak standards, etc. impact all Financial Services firms in some form or the other.
Financial firms need to now secure their firms in today's uncertain operating environment. There are no straight answers but it is important to face the reality that managing Operational Risk is not as straightforward as anybody would like to believe.
