The Race of the Cure® annual fundraising event is the largest 5K event in North Carolina and attracts participants of all ages from the Triangle area. As the signature fundraiser for the Komen NC Triangle Affiliate, up to 75 percent of the money raised through this event goes to support breast cancer screening, treatment and education programs in the Triangle and a minimum of 25 percent of the funds supports cutting edge research on breast cancer through the national Komen Foundation Award and Research Grant Program. Since the first Komen NC Triangle Race for the Cure® in 1997, attendance has grown annually to include 18,000 in 2006, and raised more than $6 million over the last ten years.
