Pixel Factory Launches “Pirate Plunder” – Puzzle Game That Activates the Mind

Pixel Factory answers to Apple App Store’s encouragement for creative puzzle games with their first app for the iPhone.

St. Louis, MO, May 25, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Pixel Factory, today announced the release of its first game for iPhone– Pirate Plunder. A non-violent, thought-provoking game meant to hone gamers’ analytical skills, Pirate Plunder is sure to entertain consumers from age 8 and up.

Pirate Plunder is a puzzle game based on “connect the dots” gameplay. The goal of the game is to connect Captain Blackjack, a mindless pirate, to all of his misplaced treasure. Using barrels to create paths across the water, the player is able progress through levels connecting treasure chests and collecting the “jems” within. TNT barrels are awarded later in the game to blast through obstacles and uncover more treasure. If a level is beaten without using all the allotted barrels, the player receives an extra “jem” from Captain Blackjack. The initial version of Pirate Plunder will have 72 levels, with more coming within a month.

While this new game is entertaining, it also improves players’ cognitive and analytical ability while improving spatial reasoning. Apple has recently promoted the idea of games with purpose and Pirate Plunder falls under that category. Puzzle games increase problem solving skills in young players and keeps older players’ minds sharp and active.

“When I first started working on Pirate Plunder, I knew it would be entertaining,” said Trey Baugher, Founder of Pixel Factory. “It wasn’t until I started playing it myself that I realized it was actually challenging me to find better ways of connecting the Captain to his treasure. As a gamer myself, I’m always looking for games that take some thought which is why Pirate Plunder is the perfect intersection of fun, entertainment, and education.”

Pixel Factory is a start-up game development studio based out of Edwardsville, Illinois. The company's sole focus is creating fun games that are visually appealing while enjoying the development process. Pirate Plunder is the first official release from the studio with a second title ready to launch by end of summer.

The free version of Pirate Plunder will contain 12 levels and comes advertisement-free. Pirate Plunder will receive a free 36 level update by the end of June. It is priced at $0.99.
