Attitash Mountain Resort Hosts Inaugural Thad Thorne 5k Memorial Race Saturday, June 16
Bartlett, NH, May 29, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Cross-country trail runners are invited to register now to take part in the first annual Thad Thorne 5k Memorial Trail Race to be held at Attitash Mountain Resort Saturday, June 16 at 10 a.m. A Fun Run Race will take place after the 5k Trail Race on a similar, shorter course. Part of the proceeds of this race will benefit the Bartlett Middle School Ski Team.
Long-time general manager of Attitash Ski Area, Thaddeus Thorne was integral to launching one of New England’s original summer fun ski areas when he initiated the construction of the Alpine Slide and established summer operations beginning in the summer of 1976. Considered a Founding Father of Attitash, Thad took part in the original planning of Attitash Ski Area and served as the General Manager for over 20 years. Thad Thorne passed away in June of 2011.
Early registration for the Thad Thorne 5k is currently open and the fee of $20 will include a free event t-shirt, (1) BBQ Lunch Ticket and (1) Single Ride Ticket for the Alpine Slide, Mountain Coaster or Scenic Chair Ride if participants register online at attitash.com; at the Attitash Ticket Office (Open M-F, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.); or by phone at 800.272.5228 by 9 a.m. on Monday, June 4. After that, early registration will close at 12 p.m. on Friday, June 15.
Registration on the morning of the event will be $25 and take place from 8-9 a.m. at The Adventure Center (located at the Attitash Main Base). All 5k trail race registrations on the day of the event will include (1) BBQ Lunch Ticket and (1) Single Ride Ticket for the Alpine Slide, Mountain Coaster or Scenic Chair Ride. This is a rain or shine event and there will be no refund on entry fee.
The course will be a mix of trail conditions including dirt, loose gravel and grass. The race trail route will utilize terrain on both Attitash and Bear Peak. All are welcome to participate in the 1-Mile Fun Run that will take place after the 5k event. The Fun Run is a free event, but registration is required and will be open on the day of the event (BBQ Lunch and Single Ride Ticket will not be included, but will be available for purchase).
