The Children’s Hospital at MUMC Celebrates 20 Years as a CMN Hospital

Savannah, GA, May 28, 2012 --(PR.com)-- This year marks the 20th anniversary of the partnership between The Children’s Hospital at Memorial University Medical Center (MUMC) and Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals. Since 1992, these two organizations have raised more than $7 million to provide healthcare for children in southeast Georgia.

“The dollars raised through CMN help fund pediatric equipment and programs right here at The Children’s Hospital. That means children in southeast Georgia can get the high-level care they need, close to home,” said Maggie Gill, president and CEO of Memorial Health. “We are so grateful to everyone who has supported our children’s hospital through their support of CMN.”

Some of the specialized equipment purchased with CMN funds includes Giraffe® OmniBeds and feeding pumps for the Level III neonatal intensive care nursery, transport cribs, and a neonatal transport ambulance. Additionally, the child life specialists at The Children’s Hospital are funded through CMN. They provide education, play, and coping techniques for children receiving medical treatment.

Martin Greenberg, M.D., original medical director for The Children’s Hospital, met entertainer Donny Osmond following a concert. (Osmond’s sister, Marie, is one of the founders of CMN Hospitals.)

“The night I decided to go back stage and convince Donnie Osmond that CMN funds raised in our region needed to stay at Memorial, I made one of best decisions of my life,” Greenberg said. “Since that evening, millions of dollars have been at work right here in Savannah. Children’s lives have literally been saved because cashiers, associates, agents, and the public have responded to the CMN call.”

To support The Children’s Hospital through CMN, call 912-350-4CMN or 866-515-4CMN or visit memorialhealth.com/foundation. Or, you may purchase a Miracle Balloon at local CMN retail partners, which include Kroger, Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, Chico’s, White House Black Market, Carmike Cinemas, and others.

The Children’s Hospital at MUMC officially opened its doors on March 20, 1992 to offer unique services for children. The Children’s Hospital at MUMC offers 33 specially trained pediatric subspecialists and is the only children’s hospital in the region. In 2011, more than 6,000 children were hospitalized and 58,000 were treated in The Children’s Hospital Outpatient Center and pediatric emergency department.
