NanoSort, Inc. Wins $1M Award for Next-Gen FACS

San Diego, CA, June 01, 2012 --(PR.com)-- NanoSort Inc., is developing next generation flow cytometers and cell sorters that are small, simple, and affordable. This $1M award reinforces NanoSort’s technology with an NIH National Institute of General Medical Sciences Phase II SBIR award.

A critical aspect of biomedical research and diagnostics is the ability to analyze and isolate pure cells for downstream applications. NanoSort aims to place cell sorters within arm’s reach of every scientist. The core technology uses innovative optics and a closed microfluidic chip to sort cells at high speeds with less shear stress than traditional sorters. NanoSort will release the first device to customers in 2013 and has letters of intent from early adopters. Scientists are eager to use NanoSort’s flow cytometer because current cell analysis and sorting systems are too large, complex and expensive.

This two-year Phase II SBIR award includes continued collaboration with Dr. Yuhwa Lo’s research group at UCSD where the core technology was invented. Together, they will commercialize a robust flow cytometry and sorting platform with multi-color detection and multi-way sorting.

Nanosort, Inc. is a development-stage biomedical device company focused on building innovative cell analysis technologies for the research, drug discovery, and diagnostics markets.
