Residences for Children with Autism Dedicated

HeartShare Human Services of New York dedicated group homes for children with autism to Joseph and Laura Caruana and Craig and Susan Eaton

Brooklyn, NY, June 01, 2012 --(PR.com)-- In a continuing effort to meet the needs of the community, HeartShare Human Services of New York opened two new residential programs for children ages 7 to 21 years old with autism spectrum disorders last May. These homes were dedicated to Joseph and Laura Caruana and Craig and Susan Eaton on May 17, 2012.

The Caruana Residence is home to seven boys and the Eaton Residence is home to seven girls.

While HeartShare has been offering residential services to adults with developmental disabilities since 1977, these are HeartShare’s first residences specifically for children in more than 25 years. The children who live in the residences attend The HeartShare School, a school-age program specifically for children with autism. The school is conveniently located next door to the residences.

Joseph Caruana has been a member of HeartShare’s Board of Directors since 2006 and is President of HeartShare Wellness’ Board of Directors. Craig Eaton has been a member of HeartShare’s Board of Directors since 2002. He is also the Chair of The HeartShare School Board of Trustees since it opened in 2007. Both Dr. and Mrs. Caruana and Mr. and Mrs. Eaton are avid supporters of HeartShare, as well as other community organizations.

“HeartShare is proud to name these two unique residences in honor of the Caruanas and Eatons,” noted HeartShare President and CEO William R. Guarinello. “They truly understand and promote the agency’s mission to nurture and support, with dignity and respect, children, adults and families in order to expand opportunities and enhance lives.”
