Gary Williams Appointed to the Board of the Brigance Brigade Foundation
Columbia, MD, June 03, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Gary Williams, CFP®, CRPC®, AIF® President and Founder of Williams Asset Management, based in Columbia, Maryland, was appointed as a Board member of the Brigance Brigade Foundation.
The Brigance Brigade Foundation was created by O.J. and Chanda Brigance to raise funds to improve the quality of life of ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) patients and their families by providing access to vital treatment, medications, equipment and support services. As a partner with the Robert Packard Center for ALS Research at Johns Hopkins, the Brigance Brigade also supports the critical funding of research for a cure.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is a progressive wasting away of certain nerve cells of the brain and spinal column called motor neurons. The motor neurons control the voluntary muscles, which are the muscles that allow movement. ALS is a progressive, disabling, fatal disease. The course of the disease is different for everyone and some people live with ALS for many years. Walking, speaking, eating, swallowing, breathing, and other basic functions become more difficult with time. These problems can lead to injury, illness, and other complications. In the United States and most other parts of the world, 1 to 2 people per 100,000 develop ALS each year. Men are affected slightly more often than women. Although ALS may occur at any age, it is most common in middle-aged and older adults.
“I am passionate about finding a cure for ALS,” says Williams. He continues, “My father-in-law lost his life to this horrible disease and it has become my mission to support this cause. I am looking forward to working with the O.J. and the Brigade to raise funds and awareness for ALS research initiatives while helping those that have the disease improve the quality of their life.”
