UPA Selected to Provide Installation Support Services for North America’s Largest Natural Gas AMI Deployment
Greenville, SC, June 05, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Utility Partners of America (UPA), a leading utility solutions provider, has been selected by Aclara®, part of the Utility Solutions Group of ESCO Technologies Inc. (NYSE: ESE), to provide installation support services (ISS) for Southern California Gas Co. (SoCalGas), the nation’s largest natural gas distribution utility and a Sempra Energy subsidiary.
SoCalGas has announced that its advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) project will include retrofitting or replacing approximately six million natural gas meters located throughout the SoCalGas service territory. When completed, the project will represent North America’s largest fully integrated meter-to-consumer AMI system used by a natural-gas-only utility.
UPA’s responsibilities for the deployment include strategic resource planning, development and delivery of a state-of-the-art work order management System, inventory management, fleet management, and facilities management. Preparatory work has already begun in support of the initiative. SoCalGas will utilize its own employees for the actual installation work.
UPA underwent a robust due diligence process during an 18-month selection period to meet the rigorous security, safety and operational standards required for an initiative of this scope and scale. “This contract represents a tremendous accomplishment for UPA and for our business partners” said Todd Stone, UPA’s president and founder. “We confidently approach this opportunity to deliver a comprehensive, world-class deployment strategy on behalf of Aclara, SoCalGas, and the California energy consumers we will serve together in partnership.”
“When it came time for Aclara to select an installation partner, UPA demonstrated that they had the experience and expertise to sustain positive momentum over this long-term project,” said Marty Zucker, Aclara’s vice president of field operations for the project. “We look forward to working with UPA in support of this important project for the utility’s customers.”
