National CPR/AED Week for Nurse and Physician Professionals from Dealmed Medical Supplies
Charlotte, NC, June 07, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Dealmed Medical Supplies acknowledges the annual CPR/AED Awareness Week the first week of June each year. In 2012, CPR/AED Awareness Week is held June 4th through 8th.
“Back in December 2007, our U.S. Congress designated the first week of June each year as a time when we all should become more aware and educated about sudden cardiac arrest, or heart attacks,” said Morty Bistritzky, spokesperson with Dealmed Medical Supplies. “We have seen the national statistics that nearly 400,000 heart attacks occur away from a hospital and our nurses and physicians and 88% of those occur inside the home.”
Bringing awareness to CPR (cardio pulmonary resuscitation), and becoming certified in the administration of CPR, can double or triple the chance of surviving a sudden heart attack. As a statistic, approximately one third of heart attack victims receive CPR.
“Both the American Heart Association and the American Red Cross today support the new ‘hands-only’ version of CPR,” says Bistritzky. “The hands-only version of CPR does not involve mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.”
An automated external defibrillator or AED is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses the potentially life threatening cardiac arrhythmias of ventricular fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia in a patient, and is able to treat them through defibrillation, the application of electrical therapy which stops the arrhythmia, allowing the heart to reestablish an effective rhythm.
“As part of National CPR/AED Awareness week,” says Bistritzky, “we encourage everybody to check their schools, business offices, workplaces and a public place to see if an AED is available and accessible or where the nearest one may be located.”
Prompt use of an AED provides the best opportunity to help someone suffering from a heart attack.
“We encourage people to visit the American Heart Association and the American Red Cross websites to learn more about hands-only CPR and how to get training instruction on CPR and the proper use of an AED,” says Bistritzky.
