SmartDrive™ Releases Dramatic Crash Video
San Diego, CA, June 14, 2007 --(PR.com)-- SmartDrive Systems Inc™, a global leader in driver risk management systems and services, announced today the video and data results from crash testing in Las Vegas this month as part of the ARC/SCI 2007 convention.
SmartDrive installed cameras in 6 of the crashed vehicles and obtained important crash data, including video of both the driver and of the driver’s point of view. The crashes Smart Drive recorded included a head-on collision at a speed of more than 40 miles an hour. The SmartDrive units not only recorded video, but also speed and g-force readings of each crash.

The Collision Safety Institute conducted the testing on June 4 at the Las Vegas Speedway as part of its annual convention to study crash reconstruction. SmartDrive supplied its data and video to the convention. A total of 10 vehicles were crashed, including remote-controlled cars and cars manually driven by Rusty Haight of CSI. Haight is in the Guinness Book of Records for most crashes by a human; Haight has conducted/crashed more than 800 vehicles.
SmartDrive’s service offers unique hardware and software solutions that capture onboard video events of problematic driving incidents. SmartDrive then organizes the management, professional review, and driver retraining & improvement from these incidents through a managed web-based portal service accessible anywhere/anytime by fleet managers, risk managers, safety managers, and company executives.
Fleet managers utilizing the SmartDrive system are able to predict and prevent crashes, improve overall driver effectiveness, and realize annualized risk-related savings of at least 50%. SmartDrive mitigates risk by improving driver behavior and assessing liability in collisions. By combining sight and sound, event analysis and driver remediation, SmartDrive's automated event recorder (AER) technology and associated web-based service reduces vehicle damages, workers' compensation and personal injury costs.
SmartDrive interfaces with vehicles’ OBD port (and Jbus) to provide custom vehicle utilization data including: speed, daily mileage, hours of use, and other maintenance & usage data.
